The Challenge

Living an unremarkable life in an unremarkable little town, I was almost surprised to realise that, on reflection, 2012 was a great year. I travelled to a number of countries, made new friends and re-established old connections; I walked many miles in the rain, swam in the crystal Med and rode a camel in the desert; I ate gateau in the Blackforest, waffles in Brussels and steak in Philadelphia.

And through all this, pretty much by accident, I chalked up a lot of ‘never done that before’ experiences. All of which got me to pondering what other first time things I could attempt.

Hence my 2013 challenge: an attempt to do one new thing, every week, for one whole year. The challenges may be big or mundane, take up a whole week or barely minutes. I hope though through one or two to discover a little remarkableness.

The purpose of this blog is to hold myself to my word.

What a fantastic idea. What a great way to be intentional and get something cool out of life each week. How do you manage to keep thinking of things to do or did you plan each thing at the start of the year?

Thank you for your comment, and for reading my blog! As you’ve already seen on my ‘Idea’s board’ page, I thought up a lot of ideas at the start of the year and have been adding to them ever since – a mix of things I’ve always wanted to do and things I would never normally do unless compelled to for a good reason, like needing to write a blog! It is quite hard to plan something ahead for every week though, there are weeks when I have to hope something turns up or frantically plan last minute. So far so good though, the thought that I will have a good year to look back on is keeping me going!

That’s cool you know your path. I guess the thing to do is just try as many things to get there and the doors that close and open will show you how to get there but the point is to keep trying till you get there. I love your strong sense of justice and desire to do something about it. The world needs voices like yours and it seems like you know which area you want to work in within this and it’s so important what you want to do.

  4. That is a wonderful challenge. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. From Eleanor Roosevelt.
    Wishing you a happy 2014.
